Progress in Mini Greenhouse

Here is what I have learned about the mini green houses.   They are great from germinating seeds but not for keeping them in there.   With the first batch I had the advantage that the corn grew so quickly it forced me to take the lid off.   Here however these seeds were not fast growers and I didn't have to take the lids off.   So what happened to the seedlings.   This is what I saw.   The cover keeps a lot of moisture and heat inside.   This is exactly what its supposed to do.   But what it does to the seedlings is that if not uncovered or taken out, the begin to form extra long steam, I believe its because they think they are still trying to break out of the soil for light and air.  So this is really not what you want to happen to your seedlings.  On top of that I planted most of these in pellets.  This soil really does not have a lot of nutrients, so one the seedling has exhausted its nutrients from the seed, that's probably the end of it.

Here is how they progressed.   The first few pictures are so so.   The ending ones you can see that the eggplant seedlings just fell over their stem was so long and they got tired of looking for the light.

At this point the situation becomes serious.   It really is time to transplant into some soil with some good nutrients.  Look at the eggplant.  Its completely fallen.  The tomato's have unusually long stems as well.  Also you'll see I've moved things around a bit.  You'll get a glimpse of those onion seedlings I planted a while back.  And other stuff.

I had fun taking all these pictures.  Next up you'll see where I transplanted them.
